History with the Group

Calahans: The group gradually formed as a hang-out at Calahans Radioactive Saloon. Over the last few weeks, they have hung out more and more, getting to know the background of each other, building trust, and staying less and less with their initial contacts in the Aidonnite Syndicate. This has not gone unnoticed, and their superiors have formally recognized this self-organized bunch and are hinting strongly that a mission is coming for the special talents of ‘Calahans rabble’.

Initial: Ken really does not like working for the Aidonnite Syndicate. In fact, in addition to graffiti against the ruling powers, he regularly tags and insults Aidonnite power as well – though they do not know it’s him doing it. During his time with the syndicate, he’s developed a reputation as more of a loner, and made no close personal contacts until a mission he was given with Xor-gon Malafax and Tal through a project the Syndicate worked on which involved setting up a trading deal with the elves. It was to get mineral extract from the sea for some building projects – hiding it from the local corps and authorities. Tal was being used because of his race, and Ken because of his resistance to magic and computer skills. They successfully were able to change manifest records, and bribe their way into opening a permanent trade pathway, AND bring the first shipment in themselves (with some harrowing close calls). It gave all of them a sense of trust, and Xor-gon and Ken were invited to join Calahan’s Rabble once it formed. Its the first time Ken has felt at ease in his time with the syndicate – everyone feels a sense of trust. Ken’s outsider perspective and contacts made him the perfect pick for a “second” in command of the group – Tal asked and Ken did not object… both feel there’s a lot of potential in the group.

Personal Background

His parents were model corporate settlers and part of the last wave of migration to the Teladyne 3 system. While on the planet surface, his parents we working testing new optical research and communications when they were caught in a atmospheric phenomenon. His mother was pregnant with him, and was soon hospitalized and then evacuated from the planet. He was born and raised on a space station, and learned to move in all manner of altitude variations from a young age, and developing his taste for pushing his physical limits – parkour style. Whatever his mother was exposed to caused strange outcomes in his body. He was born with no sense of smell, along with the strange side-effect of a form of resistance to the forces of magic. This would later make him popular on ships dealing with Faerie counterparts. He grew up engrossed in computers, eventually taking on the skills that would make him a hacker. He wanted to escape the monotony of his life though – his trade oriented education consigned him to working for the company forever – like his parents, who were happy to do so. But not him… having floundered in school, he joined the Imperium Explorers Society and fine-tuned his computer skills and picked up some meager skills to see him through in a fight. He was hired by Hyerson Shipping as a programmer and systems tracker in the Kaldorphion system, where enclaves of Faerie’s had settled and where trading rare chemicals from minerals, coral, and other sea sources. It was during one of trade runs that the Faeries must have (the theory is anyway) smuggled on something that took control of the crew and changed the course of the ship to a system named Helca – interdicted by the Galactic Council. The precise reason he was hired was to resist such things. The breach of Imperium Law cost everyone on his ship their job. Unfortunately he was new and had no funds secreted – he was forced to pay fines and stranded on Kaldorphian. Black-listed, he eventually ended up working for the largest crime group – the Aidonnite Syndicate, trying to hack into local authorities computer and communication systems.
